Why are scales for carat necessary? How is the gold in teeth calculated? The ammount of gold determines percentage of gold and other materials in a metal. It is calculated by divisiding in 24. So, one carat of gold has 1/24 parts of gold (= 4,166 %). Gold with 24 carats is considered to be the pure gold. However it is very difficult to eliminate all the impurities to get 100% gold. So 24 carats are equal to 99,9% gold. In order to meet DIN ISO standard, all scales for carat can be DKD certified (this certification must be carried out on situ, where blances for carat are placed.
