Because of their high resolution GSM scales are classified as precision scales. The sample of the material is 100 cm². The form of the sample is a circle or a square. The KERN scales which are marked with a star, are KERN scales which are calibration-capable. Calibration-capable KERN scales are not yet calibrated, but provide the properties which are necessary to calibrate them. It is therefore necessary to keep in mind that if a scale is purchased without calibration, it cannot be calibrated afterwards. Since calibration is another matter of expense, it is useful to consider if the KERN scales shall be applied for verified purposes or not. If calibration-capable KERN scales are delivered calibrated, all legal conditions are complied. Therefore, a re-calibration can be performed without a problem.
