Ultrasound Durometer UCI 1500
Ultrasound durometer following the UCI-
principle: ultrasonic contact impedance /
for measurement at hard to reach locations / non-destructive measurement
|
The
ultrasound durometer is a light, portable, handy and efficient durometer for
quick and simple hardness testing even outside of laboratories. Due to a large
graphic-LCD monitor with background lights, all test results are clearly readable
with the ultrasound durometer. The ultrasound durometer is applicable for nearly
every hardness test, whether its steel- or iron- parts. The ultrasound durometer
especially proved itself for hardness testing at fine grained or thin walled
materials. The ultrasound durometer operates in accordance to the UCI-process.
UCI means Ultrasonic Contact Impedance. The process was patented in 1961. The
wand inside the probe is brought to vibrancy in its length through a spring .
Thus the cone-shaped diamond at the other end is being pushed into the
component's surface, which happens with a pressure of 50 Newton. In the
following the wand inside the ultrasound durometer vibrates with a natural
resonance frequency that diminishes as soon as the diamond penetrates the
measured object. The alternation of the resonance also depends on the elasticity
modulus of the material, which is why the ultrasound durometer needs to be
re-calibrated before using another material. The frequency shift is proportional
by the root of the surface of impression counted in in mm. The ultrasound
durometer measures the frequency change and then calculates the hardness value
by considering the test load and calibrating values. In case that you should have more questions regarding the
