Power Meters Power meters have the characteristic to deliver versatile information via the electrical performance. Thus, power meters can determine active power, apparent power, performance factor and energy consumption. The presentation occurs on a display. A PC-software helps to ensure determination of measured data of the power meters. Furthermore, power meters show power in Watts or analyse and measure harmonics. Power in Watts, intensity of DC or AC, alternative current as well as continuous current can be measured precisely with our Power Meters. Since these Power Meters are multi-function devices. The reading of AC power is considered the real value and has a maximum range of 6000 Watts. During a reading, polarity changes automatically, a minus sign will appear on the display, if negative values are taken. Nowadays, power meters have many features like, for instance, insulated current input, measurement of harmonics, current measurement as well as power measurement. Useful information about power meters: In the power measurements of voltage networks, power is the result of the formula P = U * I; which means the product of the voltage U and electric current I. In the case of measuring alternating current (i.e. line voltage of 50 Hz) a phase angle between current and voltage is generated. You should take it into account in measuring active power. Therefore, the power meter shows the combined measurement of electrical power, a tour of the voltage and current. The value P (active power) is equivalent, as described above, to the product of both values. In practice there are three different power classes:
- Apparent power S measured in W (watt-amps) - Active power (and equivalent power) P measured as W (watts) - Reactive power as VAR (watt, amps and reagents)
Several variations of power meters are available. Which power meter is advisable for you depends on the field of operation. Power Meters with clamps are suitable for maintenance and inspections. Current will be measured indirectly with these power meters. Thus, you do not have to take action in the current circuit. Additionally, electric power can also be measured with power meters.
Owing to power meters with three clamps, three phase power meters are capable to measure simultaneously. The opportunity to measure power is also given with several special constructed power meters. Not only power but also values such as current, voltage and resistance can be measured with these power meters. Power meters are available for mobile and stationary use like, for instance, laboratory power meters.
