Cable Length
Meter CableTool
Cable length meter to determine cable length up to max.
700 m / integrated voltmeter / for
voltage inspection and recognition of cable breaks
|
This
cable length meter is a device for determining the cable length of any copper
cable type e.g. network cables, antenna cables and standard electric cables.
With an integrated TDR (time domain reflectometer) the cable length meter
captures cable lengths and distances to a cable end or an interference point
(e.g. cable breaks, cable pinches or short-circuits). By means of the integrated
voltmeter function for the tested cable eventually active lines can be
determined. Therefore the cable length meter can be connected without further
ado to power cables with up to 250 V and the applied voltage will be displayed. Additionally
the cable lenght meter is equipped with an integrated cable search
function. Therefore the cable length meter sends in a signal, and due to its
reflection from the cable its course through the cable channels and walls can be
exactly located by means of the optional purchasable CableTracker
Probe. Thus the cable length meter CableTool proves to be a fully equipped
all-round meter for the analysis of cable errors and to measure cable lengths.
Even furled cables can be monitored on its full length without any problem. If there are any questions about this

The cable length meter is preset with several cable types to measure, every
additional cable type can be defined by means of the NVP for accurate
measurement (description underneath). The following cable types are preset:
|
-
NM - non metallic (Romex)
- BX - aluminum shielded cable based on aluminum
- MC - aluminum shielded cable based on cupper
- HC -aluminum shielded cable for technical health
- UF - underground cable
- SOOW - portable 600 V cable with rubber coat
- EXTEN - outer- lengthening- cable (usually orange colour)
- W/G - ground cable
- ZIP - cable for lamp connection
- THHN xCDT - THHN cable with insulation
- CAT - category (e.g. CAT6e)
- PLNM - splitter cable
- UTP - unshielded, 2 conductor twisted cable
- COAX - Coaxial cable
- SPKR- loudspeaker cable
- TEL - 2 conductor twisted telephone cable
- PIC - plastic insulated cable
- THERM - thermostat cable

Further
cable types can be easily adjusted via the correct NVP for cable
measurement. NVP
(normal velocity of propagation): The
cable length meter CableTool performs a precise measurement of the cable length
by recording how long it takes an electric signal to cross through a cable and
get back to the meter. The time will be converted into a linear dimension based
on the signal speed for crossing through the cable and returning to the meter. Each
cable type has a different electric characteristic that have an impact on the
measuring procedure so that the speed of the signal alternates (NVP). NVP is the
relative speed of the signal while crossing through a cable medium. Vacuum
represents a theoretically perfect medium (NVP = 100).
All cables have a NVP beneath 100 and are typically between 50 and 80. Thus the
most accurate length measurement can be achieved by specifying the correct NVP.
The NVP can alternate significantly from producer to producer, and even between
the production lots of the producers.
The correct NVP is often printed on the cable by the producer, or noted on the
reel. If it's not the case, and if a correct performance of the measurement is
required, please visit the manufacturer's website or contact him by phone. The
NVP saved on the cable length meter are typical values of all manufacturers and
cable types.
