The
mechanical timber grader determines the solidity of wood within short time providing
reliable results. Nowadays timber grader become more and more important. Since
January, 1st, 2012 a new guideline was released in wood trade, so that a CE mark
must be made on every wooden palette. This mark is based on the EN 14081-4:2009
standard. These guidelines follow the purpose to mark the quality of wood and
their solidity with a grading code, in order to establish a transparent and
comparable wood trade within the European Union. In addition to an
internationally recognizable label the mechanical timber grader can also
translate the measured data into various national-wide grading codes. Thus the
results of the mechanical timber grader MTG can be transferred and sent to other
countries. The mechanical timber grader is usually used by smaller companies
that work with wood and want to quickly determine their timber grade by doing
regular quality controls. But it is also . But the mechanical timber grader is
also often used in sawmills and larger industries. Since the CE- certification
has become obligatory the companies have to chose between automated and
individual visual timber grading. In that process a handbook with the protocol
of the timber grading must be written. With the mechanical timber grader this
protocol can be generated almost entirely in an automatic process. Therefore the
measured data can be transferred from the mechanical timber grader to a
laptop or computer via bluetooth. The handbook has to contain the following
information: order number, job number, origin of wood, humidity class,
dimensions, surface, humidity of dry timber. Thus a long-term protocol is made
much more easy by the mechanical timber grader MTG, so that archiving the
measured data for a period of ten years becomes much simpler. The mechanical
timber grader MTG supports the option to measure the solidity of spruce. Further
wood types can be provided on demand. For a mechanical timber grading and
sorting it is crucial that the mechanical timber grader must have
non-destructive performance. The mechanical timber grader can be applied world
wider, since it supports an internationally valid grading system. Therefore the licenses
of the mechanical timber grader can be upgraded online. If there are any questions about this

The mechanical timber grader operates quickly,
showing within a short response time the measured data of soft- and hardwood.

The mechanical timber grader is device that is very
easy in its operation, starting the measurements by pressing the yellow key
trigger.

Due its software the timber grader is ideal to
determine the solidity of wood in an automated process and transferring the data
in order to protocol it in a logbook.

Alternatives
for timber grading
Besides
the mechanical timber grader, that has an integrated sensor for the measurement,
there are other alternative to determine the wood quality. But those are more
time-consuming, complicated and the also cause damages on the wood. Those
alternatives often require boring a whole into the wood, so the measurement must
be performed on a sample, that might become useless for any further processing.
But those samples cannot be always provided and boring a whole consumes time so
that this way of timber grading might not be always applicable. The mechanical
timber grader facilitates the grading of wood such much as it becomes much
easier and actually applicable. In the following text alternatives of timber
grading are explained.
Determining the timber quality by measuring resistance during boring:
Therefore the measuring device is placed onto the wood. A drill needle placed on
the device's front bores a whole into the wood with a consistent force. Simultaneously
the device measures the resistance of the wood to the drilling and saves those
data.
Determination of the wood quality with a shock system: This is a system
which records the traveling time of an impulse wave that is caused by a shock.
Therefore the impulse travels through the wood until it returns to the sensor
and is recognized again. Every kind of wood has a characteristic reaction to
sound, so that the solidity of the wood can be measured reliable. This allows
consumptions about the wood's inner qualities.
